Ahmedabad swimmer Neil Contractor wins bronze at Israel meet

He was part of the Indian team that won 4x50m bronze medal at world schools competition.

Neil Contractor, the 15-year-old swimmer from Ahmedabad, added another feather in his cap when his team snapped up the bronze medal in the 4x50m free style medley at the International School Sport Federation Swim Cup-2013 held at Herzliya in Israel.

Neil was part of the four-member Indian team comprising Rohit Imoliya (Madhya Pradesh), Likith Selvaraj (Karnataka) and Rakshith Shetty (Maharashtra).

It wasn’t easy going for the Indians after they qualified for the medal round. They had to contend with swimming powerhouses like China, Poland, France and Germany.

Eventually, the Germans were the fastest clinching gold with a collective time of 1:50.40, ahead of Turkey (1:49.77) who got the silver. The Indians clocked 1:49.31 and settled for the third position after edging past Poland by 0.02 sec and China by two seconds.

Neil was the fastest among the Indians completing his task — 50m — in 0:24.25sec.  His coach, Kamlesh Nanavati, said the medal will boost Neil’s confidence for future endeavours.
